Spotlights

The biotech industry is growing by leaps and bounds, with startups gaining more and more space within the industry. These companies are engaging in moving the advancement of biological science from the lab to the clinic to develop novel treatments and potential cures for human diseases, improve the diagnosis and tracking of health, increase agricultural productivity, and address future energy needs and adaptations to climate change.

The advancement of technology has allowed many biotech startups to manipulate the human genome in an effort to develop genetic medicines that target the underlying cause of many diseases and that could potentially offer a cure for life-threatening conditions.

The number of health tech startups has exploded, which have tapped into the digital revolution to offer new ways to track and deliver health care, automating previously laborious aspects of healthcare such as medical records, doctor and hospital services, and reimbursement.  Advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence have also led to the growth of health tech startups that promise to speed up drug discovery and development and clinical trials.

With the advent of globalization and the rise of social media, it’s more common to find young startups promoting their projects, telling their stories, and getting their name out there. Thanks to social media, patients are also becoming advocates and the biotech industry is embracing patient participation in their drug development process.

These platforms and technology blogs can result in deeper communication between companies and the patients they are striving to serve.
